The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos attended, on Tuesday 14 February 2023, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group Session which was organised by initiative of the US Secretary of Defense Mr. Lloyd Austin.
The Session was attended by Ministers and other high rank officials from 54 countries. They discussed the current developments in Ukraine and they stressed the need to rapidly provide defence armament and training to the military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They also stressed the importance of cooperation among defence industries in order to fill gaps in defence systems.
In his intervention, the Minister of National Defence underscored that the invasion of Ukraine is a blatant violation of the International Law, which undermines peace, security and stability in Europe, and he stressed the magnitude of the disaster and human pain caused by the war to the people of Ukraine.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos referred to the humanitarian and defence assistance that has been provided to Ukraine by our country, such as ammunition and, more recently, 20 armoured BMP-1 combat vehicles, and he stressed that Greece will continue to support Ukrainian people’s fair struggle to defend their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the sidelines of the UDCG Session, the Minister of National Defence met with his US counterpart Mr. Lloyd Austin.
