Defence Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos exchanged wishes with Armed Forces and Security Corps personnel at Evros

April 19, 2020

The Minister of National Defence Mr. NIKOLAOS PANAGIOTOPOULOS visited today, Easter Sunday 19 April 2020, the region of Evros, accompanying H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms. KATERINA SAKELLAROPOULOU at her first official visit holding the highest state office.
The President of the Hellenic Republic and the Minister of National Defence
extended their best wishes to Armed Forces and Security Corps personnel in the area and congratulated them on successfully guarding the borders, despite the guided and planned attempts by illegal immigrants to cross them through Turkey.
After the visit was completed, the Minister of National Defence made the following statement:
«We are here, at the border outpost in Kastanies of Evros, where I had the honour to accompany H.E. the President at the visit she paid here so as to honour the personnel watchfully guarding our country’s borders, and to exchange wishes with them.
I would like to briefly say the following: This year, the Holy Week was very different. Today, we are celebrating Easter as we have never celebrated it before.
More isolated, in a more inward way, which also maybe was more intense
and essential and brings us closer to its deeper meaning, that Hope will prevail over
despair that the Light will vanquish darkness; that Life will triumph over
death. From this place, where our Country’s borders have been, and still are, guarded by the admirable personnel of the Armed Forces, the Hellenic Police and last but not least, the frontiersmen of Evros, I would like to extend my most heartfelt wishes:
Many Happy Returns to everyone!
Christ is risen!»
H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic and the Minister of National Defence were accompanied by Chief/HNDGS General KONSTANTINOS FLOROS.
