Defence Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos participates in Teleconference of the “Ukraine Defence Consultative Group”

The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos participated today, Tuesday 23 May, in a teleconference, along with the Defence Ministers and Senior Officials from 44 countries, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the Commission Mr. Josep Borrell, and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Tod Wolters, which was organised by initiative of the US Secretary of Defence Mr. Lloyd Austin, following a meeting at “Ramstein”
Air Base, in Germany.

At the teleconference, the developments in Ukraine after the Russian invasion were discussed, as well as the need to immediately provide assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, for the reinforcement of defence and the protection of the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief/HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros.

In his intervention, the Minister of National Defence underlined that the invasion in Ukraine is a breach of International Law, that Greece adopted from the very first time a clear and explicit
stance against the invasion and revisionism, supporting sanctions.

In a spirit of solidarity and practical support to Ukraine, our country is as helpful as possible, both in humanitarian and defence assistance.

Mr. Panagiotopoulos also referred to the PM Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis‘ address to the Joint Session of the US Congress and the House of Representatives, where he underlined that Greece stands by Ukraine and supports the Ukrainian people, with humanitarian aid and weapons, so that they can defend their country; the message to be sent to all authoritarian leaders is that revisionism and the breach of International Law shall not prevail.
