The Defence Minister, Nikos Dendias, mentions in his Order of the Day for the new year:
“Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers, Seamen, Airmen, National Guardsmen, Reserve Servicemen and Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces,
As 2023 is coming to an end, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families for health, progress, wellbeing and fulfilment of your goals. The coming of New Year does not concern the sole renewal of the calendar. It concerns the expansion and renewal of our approach to national defence. We are obliged to evolve. To change. To adapt to modern circumstances. To promote the enhancement of our capabilities. To broaden our horizons. For the prevention of every possible usurpation. Every challenge. All those who appear on the horizon of our broader region. And all those who arise due to the usage of modern technologies.
The driving force behind the evolution and change, is you, the women and men of the Hellenic Armed Forces. You are the prerequisite and guarantor of success in this new struggle. A national, collective struggle.
Women and Men of the Armed Forces,
I would like to express my gratitude for your commitment and professionalism. Which often claims the life of your colleagues as a price, in some cases. During peacetime. I would like to express my respect for your devotion to the sacred duty of the defence of our territorial integrity. Of our non-negotiable national sovereignty. I call upon you to persist in your work. As the guardians of Greek territory, as the helpers of Greek society in every difficulty. The Greek people have their eyes fixed upon you. I wish your families and all of you a happy, peaceful, and successful new year.
Happy new Year!”.
