Defence Minister Nikos Dendias participates in NATO Defence Ministers Meeting

The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias participated today, Thursday 18 June 2026, in the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting.

At the morning work session, the Ministers of Defence discussed, among others, the fair burden sharing.

Furthermore, the Defence Minister’s discussion focused on ways to strengthen the defence industrial capabilities of the Alliance, highlighting the increase of defence readiness.

The Ministers exchanged views on the strengthening of allied defence industry capability and production, as well as on matters of energy security, protection of critical underwater infrastructure and acceleration of the expansion of the defence industrial base.

They also discussed the current developments in Ukraine, energy security and the freedom of navigation.

In the margins of the Meeting, the Minister of National Defence met with his counterparts, from Italy Guido Crosetto, from Germany Boris Pistorius, from Norway Tore O. Sandvik, from Sweden Pål Jonson and from North Macedonia Vlado Misajlovski. At their meetings, ways to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation within the NATO framework, were discussed. In addition, at the meetings with the Ministers of Defence of Germany, Sweden, Norway and Italy, the prospects for cooperation in the field of development of the European defence industry, highlighting innovation, were considered.

At the Meeting, Mr. Dendias also had a brief discussion with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US Minister of War Pete Hegseth.
