Defence Minister Panos Kammenos attends the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Brussels

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos participated in the meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence, held in Brussels.

During the meeting, the strengthened deterrence and defence capability of the Alliance and the fight against terrorism were discussed.

The Minister of National Defence stressed that the role of NATO is needed to be reinforced in the southern part and that sea routes need to be controlled in Southern Mediterranean, so that the funding of terrorism through the illegal trafficking of oil, drugs and weapons, and through money laundering, will be prevented. He referred to specific examples of which he informed the Allies.

The Minister of National Defence, along with his counterparts, signed a programme of multinational cooperation on land ammunitions, as well as a programme of cooperation among maritime patrol aircraft.

Finally, he had private meetings with Italy’s Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti and with the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in view of her forthcoming visit to Greece.
