June 10, 2016

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos accompanied by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Vasileios Tellidis attended the oath taking ceremony of newly recruited conscripts of 2016 C Enlistment Series at the Armoured Training Centre.

The Minister of National Defence, among other, stated the following in his address:

I am particularly glad to be here today, at the Armoured Training Centre, in Avlonas, to attend the oath-taking ceremony of 2016 C Enlistment Series recruits.

Conscripts, this is a special day for you and your families. An important period in your lives begins, a period of contribution to the National Defence.

Shortly before, you took the oath of the Greek soldier which is the greatest promise to your Homeland and you are called on to continue the supreme mission of the Arm or the Corps in which you will be appointed, coming up to Greek people’s expectations and confidence.

Show interest, responsibility and active participation in your training all along your service time. Take advantage of what you are offered, gain skills which will help you later in your lives.

You will realize that the military service, apart from its national and moral aspect, is also a chance for young people to develop their personalities and familiarize themselves with real conditions of social life.

All of us, the military and political leaders, we are deeply aware and conscious of the reality, the difficulties and the problems which you may be facing and this is why we pay give particular emphasis to the human aspect which is vital for the maintenance of the battle-worthiness and of a high morale.

Addressing all the career officers of the Centre, I am reminding you that you lead young people who came to serve their duty. You should demonstrate qualities of a true leader and develop a close mental relation with the young people whom their families confided you.

You ought to dismiss them not only healthy, but also mature, conscious citizens, ready to deal with any challenge in the future.

Parents, be proud of your children who will dedicate a part of their lifetime to their duty to Homeland and, along with us, support them during their service.

Be aware that the political and military leadership of the Armed Forces will stand at your side, by your family, for any issue that may arise, ready to address any problem may come up.

Today, the Armed Forces, as part of the Greek people, offer a big social contribution, reinforcing thus their bonds with civilians.

The current circumstances require us more than ever to work with absolute responsibility for our Homeland’s collective interest, putting our personal benefit and interests aside.

Dear Recruits, I wish you all a productive service and your families health and prosperity”.
