Defence Minister Panos Kammenos in Cyprus for the celebration of the National Anniversary of 1st April 1955

April 1, 2017

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, the Chief of HNDGS Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, the General Secretary for International Financial Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Tsipras and the MP of INDEPENDENT GREEKS party Dimitris Kammenos attended the celebration for the National Anniversary of 1st April 1955, in Cyprus.

The Minister of National Defence made the following statement:

Today is a very important anniversary for Greek people. We are here to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom, democracy and self-determination.

We are here also for the change of command of the General Staff of National Guard. Motherland, Greece, will always stand by the National Guard and with its forces of ELDYK we will further contribute to the defence of Cyprus which, together with Greece, is now vindicated in relation to the initiatives it had taken in the wider area of the Mediterranean Sea.

Cyprus and Greece, as well as Israel, Jordan and Egypt southwards and Romania and Bulgaria northwards, create a pivot of stability for this area that is inflicted by wars and conflicts. I think that this geopolitical reinforcement of Cyprus and Greece will also be the lever for the solution of other problems, such as the Cyprus issue.

Everybody now realizes that Cyprus and Greece, by persisting in principles of Democracy and respect of International Law, become the pillars of stability that will help us deal with wider problems of our area”.
