The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, accompanied by the Chief of HNGS Evangelos Apostolakis met with the Archbishop of America Demetrios.

After their meeting the Minister made the following statement:

“With his Eminence’s blessing, I wish to thank him for the honour to be invited as the Minister of National Defence to attend the celebration for the National Holiday of March 25th. I wish to thank him in particular, not only for the spiritual work which he has offered over all these years, but for his help in these difficult moments for our Nation as well. His presence in the White House, the American government, promotes our country’s interests in these difficult times.

President Obama’s statement on March 25th with a not ordinary message – because his message was not ordinary at all, but substantial – as well as President Obama’s mediation among European Union leaders over the last time are his personal success.

I would like to ask for his blessing, to assure him that the government will do its best to preserve excellent Greek-American relations – I have been invited by the Department of Defence of the United States of America – and also to ask him, in this difficult time for our country, for our nation, to continue his influence on this very important and allied country, the United States of America. Greece may assume the role of a stable factor in the wider region and ensure, first of all, peace, as well as the interests of the free world.”
