Defence Minister Panos Kammenos at the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence

October 8, 2015

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos attended the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence which was held in Brussels, on October 8, 2015.

The Minister of National Defence stated the following:

“Greece, as a member of the alliance, continues its work at NATO and EU levels.

We underlined the particular problem that has been caused by the presence of millions of potential migrants, as well as refugees, on the coast of Turkey.

We asked for initiatives to be taken, in order to examine how possible it is for secure areas to be created, so that refugees, as well as all those who seek for a better future in Europe will be able to return to their residences, their villages, their homes and, in parallel, other people will not be removed from their residences.

It is a Europe that can no more integrate all those who try to migrate there, via Greece, Turkey and other NATO member states.”

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos had bilateral meetings with the Defence Minister of Poland Tomasz Siemoniak, of Bulgaria Nikolay Nankov Nenchev and Romania Mircea Duşa.

They discussed about issues of bilateral interest, as well as issues pertinent to the security of the wider area.
