The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, accompanied by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Vassilios Tellidis, visited Cyprus so as to attend the celebrations on the occasion of the Cypriot National Anniversary of April 1st 1955.
The Minister of National Defence made the following statement:
“Feeling great respect towards the heroes and fighters of EOKA, we are here in Cyprus in order to pay homage to the ‘Imprisoned Graves’ and the fighters who resisted, holding the flag of Hellenism up, giving their blood for national independence and territorial integrity. Hellenism, united, marches towards the future.
I would like to congratulate the President of the Cypriot Republic, as well as all the citizens of Cyprus who, through hard fights, helped Cyprus exit the Memorandum. Now it’s Greece’s time. This means that, from now on, better days are coming for the entire Hellenism.
We follow closely the talks on the Cyprus issue, we support the Republic of Cyprus on the decisions it will take and we are by its side for a viable solution which will ensure national rights”.
