The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, accompanied by Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, visited the military outposts of the islets Panagia at Oinousses and Farmakonissi and exchanged wishes with the Officers, NCOs and soldiers, on the occasion of the Easter Holiday.
The Mayor of the city of Stylida, Apostolos Gletsos, who is a Commando Reserve Captain, was also present at their visit.
The Minister of National Defence made the following statement from the outpost on the islet Panagia:
“Christ is risen! We are here today, with Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Commander of the 96 Higher National Guard Battalions Command Brigadier General Panagiotis Kimmourtzis and the Mayor of the city of Stylida Apostolos Gletsos, by the side of the Commander, Officers, NCOS and soldiers at the outpost of Panagia.
The military outpost of the islet of Panagia is among the forward outposts of the Supreme Military Command of the Interior and Islands, of the Greek Armed Forces. Along with our military personnel who ‘guards a Thermopylae’, today, on Easter Day, a festive day which brings hope, I wish that the Holy light of the Resurrection will illuminate the spirits of the entire personnel of our Armed Forces and their families, who are far away when they face their duty.
At the same time, our thoughts, the entire Greek people’s thoughts, are with the Officer and NCO who are held in the high-security prison of Andrianoupolis. Our wish is that freedom will come soon for them.
Today, at the Easter table in all military camps, there are two empty seats, by an order given by the political and military leadership. I know that in every Greek house, there will also be two empty seats, until our two servicemen return.
Christ is risen! This is a message of love, vigor, security and certitude, sent from the outpost of the islet Panagia“.
