Defence Minister Thanasis Davakis meets with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis met yesterday, Tuesday 16 June 2026, in the Parliament, with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada).

In the context of their meeting, the historical friendly relations between the two countries, the prospect of further strengthening the bilateral defence cooperation, as well as the extended modernization programme of the Hellenic Armed Forces were discussed.

After welcoming the members of the Ukrainian delegation to our country, Mr. Davakis stated that Greece and Ukraine share mutual fundamental values: democracy, rule of law, respect of International law, as well as the shared commitment to peace.

After their meeting, Mr. Davakis stated on the issue:

I welcomed today a delegation of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament, with whom we had an essential and fruitful meeting.

Greece and Ukraine face common challenges in a complex international environment. We discussed matters pertaining to security and stability in the broader area, as well as the prospects for further mutual initiatives in the field of defence.

Greece remains strongly committed to the ties of international cooperation. I am certain that today’s meeting will be a key contribution to further deepening the two countries’ relations”.
