The Minister of National Defence Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos observed today, the joint rapid reaction exercise, named “PYRPOLITIS”, accompanied by the Ministry’s military leadership. Following the completion of the exercise, Mr. Avramopoulos made the following statement:
“An excellent joint exercise was just completed, the exercise “PYRPOLITIS”. Indeed, it was very impressive. First of all, it brings out our country’s deterrent power, especially at this time, when some might think that the financial crisis has weakened us in the defensive field as well. This is not true. On the contrary.
This other Greece, Greece of duty, honour, operational readiness and sacrifice is present here. A substantially effective personnel are the guarantors of our country’s independence. Our young soldiers, our officers, the Armed Forces’ military leadership, they all deserve the publicly expressed praise and congratulations, since it is them who keep our national defence system at such a high level.
The State, on its turn, guarantees the possibilities of our national defence system which, apart from ensuring the country’s integrity and independence, is also a stable and stabilising agent in the broader region, serving higher values, like peace and cooperation”.
