Defence Minister’s Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos statement after his meeting with the Minister of Defence of Turkey Mr. Ismet Yilmaz on the sidelines of the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meetings at Brussels

February 21, 2013

The Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, on the sidelines of the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meetings that take place in Brussels, met with the Turkish Minister of Defence Mr. Ismet Yilmaz.

After the completion of their meeting, Mr. Panagiotopoulos made the following statement:

“With my Turkish counterpart Mr. Ismet Yilmaz, we had a long talk during which each side presented its stand. As far as the Greek side is concerned, we made it clear that Greece seeks after good neighbourly relations and cooperation, as well as a framework of security, stability and Peace in the broader region where both countries, Greece and Turkey, belong.

However, we also underlined that inflammatory statements made from time to time by Turkish Officers, infringements and violations within the Aegean airspace, uncommon seaways and unusual navigation activity by Turkish naval ships, do not encourage walking to this direction, namely establishing better neighbourly relations and cooperation between the two countries”.
