Defence Minister’s Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos Statement following his meeting with the Prime Minister

July 10, 2012

The Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, after his meeting with the Prime Minister, made the following statement:

“With the Prime Minister, as it has been happening ever since he was at the Hospital in Haidari, we meet often for matters of my pertinence. As you can understand, at these meetings we discuss on everything. That is also what happened today.

The Prime Minister gave specific orders, in order for us to proceed to matters of our pertinence. What I have to say – and I think that it is not the only time this has been told by me, yet I will never tire repeating it – is that the country’s Armed Forces keep at a high level their spirit, morale and operational readiness.

The Armed Forces’ deterrent capability is at a very high level, it has not been affected by the cuts, and all those who are serving in them, men and women, accomplish in the best possible way their mission and perform their duty in the best possible way. Yet, just like the Armed Forces stand by the Hellenic people, it is also our duty to stand by them, defend their dignity and attempt to facilitate their everyday mission”.
