The Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited the region of Evros on 13 and 14 December 2019.

During his visit, the Deputy Minister of National Defence met with the Commanding Generals of the D’ Army Corps, the XII and XVI Mech Divs, the Police Colonels of the Police Directorates of Alexandroupolis and Orestiada, and the Commander of the Hellenic Coast Guard of Alexandroupolis, who briefed him on the progress made towards materializing the orders given to handle and manage the migration – refugee issue.

Using the road network at the land borders along Evros river within the AOR of the 3rd – 7th – 30th – 31st – 50th Mechanised Brigades and the 21st Mechanised Infantry Regiment Tactical Command, he inspected the joint activities of the Land Army and the Hellenic Police at the Check Points, as well as the deterrent obstacles.

He also visited the Joint Border Control-Surveillance Centre in Nea Vyssa-Orestiada, where he was briefed on its operation and surveillance capabilities.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence also visited the Reception and Identification Centre of Evros, where he met and discussed with the Commander.
