The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, represented the Hellenic Government at the celebrations conducted to commemorate the liberation of the Castle of Salona (the first Castle to be liberated from the Turkish yoke during the Revolution of 1821), held by the Municipality of Delphi in Amfissa.
Mr. Chardalias initially attended the doxology at the Church of Agios Nikolaos of Amfissa, officiated by the Reverend Metropolitan of Fokida, Theoktistos. He subsequently visited Isaia Square where he laid a wreath at the statue of the Bishop of Salona, Isaias, following a memorial service honoring our National Heroes.
Finally, the Deputy Minister of National Defence watched the parade attended by groups of Amfissa schools of all levels, as well as cultural associations and traditional garment clubs from different areas of Greece, along with traditional dances and events performed by local clubs’ dancing groups.
The events were also attended by the Fokida MP, Mr. Ioannis Bougas representing the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Konstantinos Tasoulas, the Deputy Regional Governor of the Region of Fokida, Mr. Georgios Delmouzos, the Mayor of Delphi, Mr. Panagiotis Tagalis, the Commander of the Artillery Training Center, Brigadier General Ioannis Stamatakis representing the Armed Forces, the Police Director of Fokida Prefecture, Brigadier General Georgios Karachalios, the Commander of the Fire Service of Fokida Prefecture, Evaggelos Tsiorlidas, Mayors and members of the Regional and Local Authorities.
