The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr.Nikolaos Chardalias attended, on Sunday 16 January 2022, the Funeral Service of heroic Infantry Colonel Konstantinos Kokkas, which was officiated in Saint George’s Church in his birthplace, Peta, Artas.
Colonel Konstantinos Kokkas fell, in 1974, while fighting for faith and motherland, during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The transportation and official reception ceremony of his relics was held on 25 November 2021, at Dekeleia Air Base, after the research and identification procedure was completed, in the context of the programme of exhumations executed by the Research Committee for the Missing and the respective programme of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Funeral Service for the hero Konstantinos Kokkas was attended by the MP of Arta constituency Mr. Christos Gkokas as representative of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Mr. Georgios Stylios, the Mayor of N. Skoufas Ms. Rozina Vavetsi, the Deputy Regional Governor for Arta Prefecture Mr. Vasileios Psathas, the Commander of the 1st Infantry Division Lt. Gen Dimitrios Vounisios, the representative of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus Lt. Col Christos Pieris, as well as delegations of personnel of the Armed Forces and the Security Corps.
