Deputy Defence Minister Nikolaos Chardalias visits the Armour Training Centre, the 691st Industrial Base Plant and the European Medical Stockpile, in Avlonas, Attica.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias in the context of his tour to Formations and Units of the Armed Forces, he visited, on Thursday 19 May 2022, the Armour Training Centre and the 691st Base Industrial Plant, Avlonas, Attica.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence was briefed by the Commander of the Armour Training Centre Brigadier General Ioannis Dellas and the Commander of the 691st Industrial Base Plant Lieutenant Colonel Christos Valtsios, as well as by the Commander of the 2nd Ordnance Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Georgios Fotias on the organization, the mission, the work and the current activities of the units. He also toured the premises and the infrastructure of the Armour Training Centre and the 691st Industrial Base Plant where he had the chance to converse with military personnel, conscripts and civilian personnel.

Moreover, Mr. Chardalias also visited the LEO1A5 tank firing simulator in the Simulation Centre of the Armour Training Centre and he attended an exhibition of the tank capabilities of the Hellenic Army at the Armour School.

In the end, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the premises of the European Medical Reserve of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection which is located at the base of the 2nd Ordnance Battalion, “MACHAIRA” Camp, where a part of the European common stock of lifesaving medical equipment is kept, in the context of a project for the creation of a common European stockpile of lifesaving medical equipment, through which the member-states of the European Civil Protection Mechanism ensure the existence of a sufficient stockpile and its immediate distribution wherever it is necessary (rescEU stockpiling).

During his visits, Mr. Chardalias was accompanied by the Director of the Armour Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff Major General Georgios Mavroidis, the Deputy Commander of the Higher Military Command of Army Support Major General Anastasios Alexiadis, the Commander of the Base Support Command Major General Athanasios Saplaouras and the Director of International Relations of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection Fire Lieutenant Colonel Spyros Georgiou.
