Deputy Defence Minister Nikolaos Chardalias visits the Surveillance Outposts “OTHONOI” in the Ionian Sea and “MOLYVDOSKEPASTO” in Konitsa

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr.Nikolaos Chardalias visited Surveillance Outposts in the area of responsibility of the 8th Motorized Brigade, on Sunday 16 january 2022.

Specifically, Mr. Chardalias travelled to Othoni island, where he visited the Surveillance Outpost of the Army which was inaugurated recently (3 August 2021) and is considered of great military significance for our country’s National Security and, at the same time, it is an important factor for the reinforcement of the residents’ morale at the westernmost point of our country.

He also laid a wreath to the monument of the 48 persons killed in action on board the submarine “PROTEUS” which was sunk together with its crew, at the north of Othoni, on 29 December 1940, during the Greek-Italian war and he also visited the Health Centre of the island which is staffed by a military doctor.

Afterwards, he visited the Surveillance Outpost of “MOLYVDOSKEPASTO”, on the Greek-Albanian borderline, where he met the mayor of Konitsa Mr. Nikolaos Exarchou and his local representatives on the Molyvdoskepasti village.

During his visits, the Deputy Minister of National Defence was informed about the mission and the work of the Military Outposts, conversed with the personnel and the conscripts and inspected the premises and the infrastructure.

Mr. Chardalias was accompanied by the Commander of the 8th Motorized Brigade, Brigadier General Christos Siorentas.
