On Tuesday 13 December 2022, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias, concluding his two-day trip to Formations and Units of the Army and the Air Force in the area of responsibility of the D Army Corps, visited the Regions of Xanthi and Kavala and specifically:
The Tank Firing Range at Petrochori, Xanthi, where he was informed by the Command of the XXV Armoured Brigade on the international activities of the Brigade and observed firing of LEOPARD tank crews, from the Firing Control Centre. For the observation of the firing, the digital system of observation was used. Afterwards, he watched a small-scale exercise with tank fires of LEOPARD 2HEL and MARDER 1A3 Armoured Fighting Vehicles, evaluating, in practice, the results of the training in the recently delivered armoured fighting vehicles. At the same time, he had the chance to be briefed about the capabilities of the Tank Firing Range and of the assets.
Afterwards, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the XX Armoured Division Headquarters in Kavala and the headquarters of the Air Force Detachment in Chrysoupoli, where their Commanders, Major General Athanasios Garinis and Lieutenant Colonel (AF) Thomas Kasigeorgopoulos, respectively, welcomed him and informed him about their activities. Mr. Hardalias exchanged greetings with officers, soldiers and civilian personnel for the oncoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Commanders of the Hellenic 1st Army/EU-OHQ Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis and of the D Army Corps Lieutenant General Ioannis Tsioplos.
