On Tuesday 17 December 2019, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited the under construction Reception and Identification Centre located in the island of Samos and inspected the progress of the works. Additionally he was briefed and observed the 24/7 sea patrols on a Coast Guard vessel.
In the context of his visit he received the Portuguese Prime Minister Mr. António Costa and the Minister of Defence Mr. João Titterington Gomes Cravinho, along with the Vice-President of the Government Mr. Panagiotis Pikrammenos, and they all visited the Portuguese FRONTEX Forces.
The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the First Reception Special Secretary of the Ministry of Citizen Protection Mr. Emmanouil Logothetis.
