Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis attends the Celebration of the 101 Years Anniversary of Xanthi Liberation

On Saturday 3 October and on Sunday 4 October 2020, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis went to Xanthi, representing the Hellenic Government, to attend the celebrations on the occasion of the 101 years anniversary since the city’s liberation.

On Saturday, he attended the Grand Festive Vespers at the Church of Hagia Sophia and on Sunday he attended the Doxology, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Timios Prodromos (St. John the Baptist). Next, he laid a wreath at Xanthi’s War Monument during the memorial service.

In the context of his visit, he met with His Grace Metropolitan Panteleimon of Xanthi and Peritheorion, His Grace Metropolitan Theoklitos of Ierissos, Mount Athos and Ardameri, His Grace Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia and Komotini, the Mayor of Xanthi Emmanouil Tsepelis, the Deputy Head of Region Nikos Efraimidis, the MP for Xanthi Spyros Tsiligiris, the D Army Corps Commander Lieutenant General Aggelos Ilaridis, as well as with representatives of the local authorities.
