On Monday, 25 January 2021, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Alkiviadis Stefanis, inaugurated an exhibition with rare authentic relics of the year 1821, at “Eleftherios Venizelos” Athens International Airport.

This initiative of the Ministry of National Defence, through the War Museum, is realized in cooperation with “Eleftherios Venizelos” Athens International Airport, in the context of the 200 year celebration from the start of the Greek Revolution. Visitors from all over the world are given the opportunity to see authentic war and handy objects of the 1821 Revolution heroes.

The event was attended by the Director General of “Eleftherios Venizelos” International Airport Operational Functions, Mr. Alexandros Aravanis and the War Museum Chairman, Mr. Anastassios Liaskos.

In his address, the Deputy Minister of National Defence stated the following:

The year 2021 is undoubtedly a year of hope and perspective for future Greece. The 200 year anniversary from the start of the National Revolution struggle constitutes a great opportunity for us, to be inspired by our history, to evaluate our course, to visualise the future of the country and to be introduced once again, with our new, progressive, modern identity to Europe and the whole world.

The partnership between the War Museum and “Eleftherios Venizelos” International Airport aims to showcase the 1821 Greek Revolution, to the millions of visitors in the country, marking both its historic importance and its international dimension, as a piece of world historic heritage. I would also like to mention that on behalf of the Ministry of National Defence, along with the Minister, we have undertaken a great number of actions for 2021, not only in Athens and Thessaloniki, but almost all over Greece.

These actions of ours are in coordination with the “Greece 2021” Committee. We have frequent conversations with Mrs. Gianna Aggelopoulou, we schedule the actions and we are optimistic that the end of 2021 will find our country more hopeful and brighter.

Devout congratulations to the War Museum and the Airport Administrations for the idea and its implementation, through the synergy of the two of them”.
