The Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited the International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition 2019 (“ADEX 2019”), in Seoul, from Monday 14 to Friday 18 October 2019, after an official invitation.

Bilateral meetings were held with the Minister of Supplies and Armaments of the Republic of Korea Wang Jung-Hong, the Deputy Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Korea Park Jae-Min, while he had a business lunch with the Deputy Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea Lee Byoung Goo. The issue of moving the Monument which is dedicated to the Greek Expeditionary Force, for its contribution to the Korean War, to a new proper location, was discussed along with the promotion of the Defence-Technical Cooperation through the signing of a pertinent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has been pending since 2018, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister met with the Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command Vice Admiral Stuart Campbell Mayer.

Finally, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the Monument which is dedicated to the Greek Expeditionary Force, the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea, where he had an official meeting with His Beatitude the Metropolitan Bishop of Korea Ambrosios, as well as the War Memorial of Korea, where he laid a wreath at the votive column for the Greek participation in the Korean War.

During his visit, the Deputy Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece in Seoul, Ms Ifigeneia Kontoleontos.
