On Tuesday 8 December and Wednesday 9 December 2020, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Alkiviadis Stefanis visited the 1st Army Area of Responsibility and specifically D Army Corps.
In the context of his visits to the Armed Forces Military Hospitals, he visited the 404 General Military Hospital in Larissa, the 212 Mobile Field Surgical Hospital in Xanthi and the 216 Mobile Field Surgical Hospital in Alexandroupolis. He was informed by their Commands and discussed their reinforcement, in order to improve the provided medical services, as well as their contribution in dealing with the medical crisis.
In the context of personnel welfare, he observed the construction works of Officers and NCOs Quarters in Alexandroupolis and Komotini.
Personnel welfare is reinforced by the construction of a new Day Nursery in Alexandroupolis, which is a donation by “Vassilios G. Melas Institution”. The Nursery is an addition to the creation of a modern multi-space area, which will also include officers’ quarters, medical services, a gym, church, green spaces, parking spaces and a mall.
He also visited the Headquarters of D Army Corps in Xanthi and of XII Mechanised Infantry Division in Alexandroupolis and was informed on operational matters and their current activities.
He visited Poros village in Evros and observed the construction works, in the context of the Armed Forces’ contribution, of a border deterrent obstacle (Fence).
He also had meetings to extract donations for the reinforcement of the Armed Forces.
During his visits he was accompanied in Larissa by the Chief of the Tactical Air Force, Lieutenant General Themistoklis Bourolias and the Commander of the 1st Army/EU-OHQ, Lieutenant General Vassilios Papadopoulos and in D Army Corps by its Commander, Lieutenant General Angelos Ilaridis.
