Today Thursday 15 April 2021, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis traveled to Chania, where he met with the MPs of the Prefecture Mrs. Dora Bakogiannis, Mr. Manousos Voloudakis, a representative of MP Vassilis Digalakis and the Mayor of Chania Mr. Panagiotis Simandirakis.
He visited 115 Combat Wing based at the Air Base of Souda bay, where he addressed the Command and the personnel. In the context of the program for energy autonomy of military facilities, the Deputy Minister of National Defence was briefed on the energy upgrade works underway at 115 Combat Wing, donated by Greek energy company TERNA.
At the Chania Town Hall, he discussed with the Mayor and representatives of municipal authorities the issue of handing over the fire-stricken building of Italian Barracks, where part of the War Museum of Chania was accommodated, to construct the new Town Hall.
Then he visited the Firka Fort, hose interior has been conceded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the transfer of the collection of the Chania War Museum Annex. Then he was given a tour at the Maritime Museum of Crete along with the Chairman of the War Museum Mr. Anastasios Liaskos.
Concluding, the Deputy Minister visited the “Markopoulo” Camp, which shall be handed over to the Chania Municipality and the “Raftopoulo” Camp where all military units and services accommodated at the first camp shall relocate.
