On 15 August 2021, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited Nisyros island, where he attended the events for the Dormition of the Theotokos at the Monastery of Panaghia Spiliani. The Divine Liturgy was officiated by the Metropolitan of Kos and Nisyros, Mr. Nathanail.
Following local customs, the Deputy Minister of National Defence accompanied the Miraculous Icon of the Theotokos during its procession to Mandraki.
The Deputy Minister discussed with the Mayor of Nisyros, Mr. Christofis Koroneos, the contribution and support of the Ministry of National Defence to the new development projects for the local community and met and discussed with locals.
The events were also attended by the Eparch of Kos and Nisyros Mr. Ioannis Kampanis, the Commanding General of the 80th Higher National Guard Battalions Command, Brigadier General Triantafyllos Theodosios, the Police Chief of Kos, Police Brigadier General Loukas Thanos, the Commander of the Island Defence Command of Nisyros, Lieutenant Colonel Antonios Kampilafkos, and the Harbourmaster of Kos, Commander Ioannis Karatziounis CG.
While in Nisyros, the Deputy Minister of National Defence also visited the Volcanological Museum, the Stefanos Crater, and the Church of Profitis Ilias in Nikia.
All activities took place in line with the health protection measures mandated by the Hellenic Government.
