During his visit to the Prefecture of Evros on Holy Monday, 26 April 2021, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis met with the Metropolitan of Didymotiho, Orestiada, and Soufli, Mr. Damaskinos, and the Mayors of Orestiada, Mr. Vasilis Mavridis, Didymotiho, Mr. Romylos Hatzigiannoglou, and Soufli, Mr. Panagiotis Kalakikos.
In Marasia, Evros, he laid a wreath at the Monument of the Lady of Marasia in honour of her contribution to the enlisted soldiers.
On Holy Tuesday, 27 April, he met with the Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Anthimos, the city mayor, Mr. Giannis Zamboukis, and the Deputy Head of the Region of Evros, Mr. Dimitris Petrovits.
Furthermore, he recognised Lieutenant General Georgios Karahalios (ret.) for his long contribution, love, and devotion to the Armed Forces.
The Minister of National Defence then went to Surveillance Outpost 690 on the Greek – Bulgarian border. Finally, he visited Megalo Derio, where he met with locals and Mr. Mumin Pireli, teacher at the village’s minority elementary school.
The meetings with the Metropolitans, the Deputy Head of Region, the Mayors, and the local community are part of the Ministry of National Defence’s outreach actions and enhance the synergies constantly implemented within the framework of both social contribution, as well as the mutual use of capabilities to the benefit of the country, especially in the border area of Evros.
