On Wednesday, 01 November 2023, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. I. Kefalogiannis visited the headquarters of the Engineer School and the 747 th Special Engineer Battalion at Loutraki, Corinthia, accompanied by the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Major General Georgios Mavroidis, and the Director of the Engineer Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Brigadier General Efthymios Giannakakis, as well as the Deputy Minister for Culture, Christos Dimas. During the visit, Mr. Kefalogiannis was briefed by the Commandant of the Engineer School, Brigadier General Ioannis Ikonomou, and the Commander of the 747 th Special Engineer Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Georgios Stergioulis, on their organisation, mission, work, and current activities. He confirmed the capabilities of the machinery, assets, and materiel of the Engineer School, the Special Engineer Battalion, and the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion and attended the training of Engineer Second Lieutenants and Career Sergeants, Class of 2023, at the Machinery Training Grounds. Finally, the Special Engineer Battalion and the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion gave a demonstration of materiel, devices, explosive disposal

assets, and rescue techniques, using also dogs for search and rescue which support the work of Civil Protection.

After the end of the demonstration, the Deputy Minister stated the following:
“Today I had the opportunity to see for myself the capabilities of the Engineer Corps and the 747 th Special Engineer Battalion. During exercises based on realistic scenarios it was confirmed once again that our country’s Armed Forces have endless capabilities in dealing with any disaster or incident related to Civil Protection. The purpose of my visit today is for the political leadership, in cooperation with
the General Staffs, to enhance there capabilities to the benefit of the Greek society as a complementary duty of the Armed Forces, which give their all every day to protect the country’s integrity”.
