On Friday, 22 December 2023, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Ioannis Kefalogiannis, accompanied by the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, was greeted by the Commander of the Underwater Demolition Command, Captain Apostolos Gavrielatos HN, at the Underwater Demolition Command facilities, where he was briefed on the organisation and mission of the Command. He also watched part of the training activity of the 199th Underwater Demolition Course.
Officers, NCOs, and Professional Soldiers of the Hellenic Navy, Army and Coast Guard take part in the Underwater Demolition Course. The Course lasts for twenty-eight (28) weeks and the training tasks include: physical condition improvement, mental and physical exhaustion perseverance, diving with all types of scuba diving gear in depths of up to forty (40) metres, hydrography/reconnaissance of landing shores, martial arts, use of small arms and standardised explosives, and unorthodox warfare.
Mr. Kefalogiannis had the opportunity to attend the closing of the intensive training week of new frogmen candidates and congratulate those who succeeded in person, praising the mental and physical courage that they showed.
