On Sunday, 23 October 2022, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, within the framework of his official visit to Australia, met with His Grace, the Bishop of Sozopolis Mr. Kyriakos, at the Archdiocesan Church of St. Eustathios in Melbourne.
During the meeting, they discussed matters and needs of the Bishopric and its multifaceted contribution through its missionary, humanitarian, and educational initiatives to highlight Orthodoxy and Hellenism. Mr. Chardalias praised the work of the Bishopric and its efforts, which are always accompanied by feelings of Philhellenism and love to the Hellenic Nation and the Orthodox Church.
Before the meeting, the Deputy Minister of National Defence attended the Divine Liturgy and the Memorial Service in memory of the fallen at the Battle of Navarino at the Archdiocesan Church of St. Eustathios, officiated by His Grace, the Bishop of Sozopolis Mr. Kyriakos.
Mr. Chardalias then visited the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne and was given a tour of its premises which host exhibits that promote and eternalise the Greek civilization and highlight Greek history through the ages. The Deputy Minister of National Defence was welcomed by the General Director of Greek Media Group (“3XY-Radio Hellas” radio and “Ta Nea” newspaper), Mr. Spyros Alatsas.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the General Consulate of Greece in Melbourne, where he met with the General Consul, Mr. Emmanouil Kakavelakis, with whom he discussed matters of mutual interest. He also addressed the members of the diplomatic delegation, whom he congratulated for the excellent performance of their duties.
Furthermore, he met at the General Consulate the Greek Australian MPs of Victoria Mr. Nick Staikos (also Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of Victoria for education, healthcare, and transportation) and Mr. Lee Tarlamis, with whom he discussed matters of mutual interest and the Diaspora.
Finally, Mr. Chardalias attended a working lunch with important businessmen of the Greek Diaspora in Melbourne. During a productive discussion, he exchanged views on matters of cooperation and investment in the Hellenic economy which, despite the ongoing global crises, continues to grow at an excellent rate.
