On Tuesday, 31 May 2022, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias and the CEO of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator Mr. Anastasios Manos signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and HEDNO during a ceremony that took place at “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Hall in the Ministry of National Defence.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, the Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General (HAF) Themistoklis Bourolias, and the Deputy Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, Rear Admiral Georgios Kambourakis HN and, on behalf of HEDNO, the Deputy CEO of Network Development & Operation Mr. Iraklis Menegatos, the Executive Office Director Ms. Chariklia Nakou, and the Special Advisor Mr. Ilias Padouvas.
Through the signing of the Memorandum, the two Parties will engage in mutually beneficial cooperation that also benefits the public, in order to fulfill the requirement of providing power to critical defence infrastructure in Greece and especially to reinforce such infrastructure in border regions and remote islands, and at the same time to deal with emergency situations affecting the country’s Electricity Distribution Network.
The goal of this national cooperation is to keep both the Armed Forces’ and HEDNO’s infrastructure at peak operating and performance level, contributing to the enhancement of the level of national security in border regions and remote islands of Greece, as well as of the citizens’ standard of living through the uninterrupted supply of power.
The Memorandum of Cooperation will enter into force on this very day, upon its signing by the representatives of the two Parties.
Upon the signing of the Memorandum, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias stated:
“The signing of this Memorandum of Cooperation, between the Ministry of National Defence and the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator, confirms our common will to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation that also benefits the public, aiming on one hand at fulfilling the requirement of providing power to critical defence infrastructure in border regions or remote islands, and on the other hand at dealing with emergency situations affecting the country’s Electricity Distribution Network.
Our vision is the uninterrupted supply of power and the smooth operation of both the Armed Forces’ and HEDNO’s operational infrastructure, a fact that can decisively contribute to the enhancement of the level of national security and standard of living of Greek citizens”.
HEDNO CEO Mr. Anastasios Manos stated:
“The Memorandum of Cooperation signed today seals an extremely important initiative undertaken by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, conveying at the same time a message of unity and determination regarding assuring our critical infrastructure across the country. I would like to warmly thank the Deputy Minister Nikos Chardalias for this national cooperation that starts now and has as its main pillar the protection and security of all border regions and remote islands of Greece, as well as the uninterrupted supply of power to all citizens in emergency situations. On our behalf, we pledge to support the hard work of the Armed Forces with all our strength and contribute to the strategic defence of our critical infrastructure, in a period of multiple challenges, like the one we experience nowadays”.
The Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, made a short address on behalf of the Armed Forces regarding the signing of the Memorandum.
