On Friday, 07 October 2022, first day of his official visit to the United States of America, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, visited the US Naval Academy in Washington, DC, where he was welcomed by the Academy Commandant, Vice Admiral Sean Buck.
During the visit, Mr. Chardalias was briefed on the Academy’s mission, naval training and academic education curriculum, and was given a tour of its facilities.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence, in order to enhance cooperation between the Hellenic and US Naval Academies, proposed the joint development and implementation of a military and naval training and academic education programme involving the exchange of naval cadets between the US Naval Academy and the Hellenic Naval Academy, to the benefit of the future leaders of the two countries’ Armed Forces, named “ΦΙLIA”. The presentation of the proposal was enthusiastically received by the US Naval Academy Command.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence then visited:
– The Hellenic Delegation, where he met with the Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Theodoros Bizakis, with whom he discussed matters of mutual interest. He also had the opportunity to discuss with the Embassy personnel.
– The Hellenic Military Delegation, where he met with the Greek Defence Attaché to the US, Colonel Panagiotis Vlachopoulos, and the personnel of the Delegation, whom he congratulated for their professionalism and effectiveness in the performance of their duties.
