Today, Thursday 14 May 2026, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis accompanied the President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas during his visit to Evros. They were welcomed by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos.
The President of the Republic and the Deputy Minister of National Defence attended the “Eleftheria 2026” celebrations for the 106th anniversary of the liberation of Alexandroupolis and its incorporation into national territory. The celebrations included a doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Aghios Nikolaos of Alexandroupolis, a memorial service at the Domna Visvizi Memorial, wreath laying by the President of the Republic at the Memorial, and a parade of military troops and civilian organisations.
Subsequently, they went to the Kipi Bridge Surveillance Outpost and the Greece – Turkey Border Station, where they discussed with Armed Forces personnel.
