Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis Attends Celebration of Saint Marina at the Church of the South Evoikos Gulf Naval Base

On Thursday 16 July 2026, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Thanasis Davakis, attended the Great Vespers and the Procession of the Holy Icon of the Great Martyr Saint Marina at the namesake Church of the South Evoikos Gulf Naval Base.

The Great Vespers was officiated by His Grace, the Bishop of Almopia, Mr. Stephanos.

The celebration was also attended by the Chief HNGS, Vice Admiral DimitriosEleftherios Kataras HN, Brigadier General Periandros Kostoulas, as representative of the Chief HAGS, Brigadier General (HAF) Panteleimon Bekiaropoulos, as representative of the Chief HAFGS, Hellenic Police Brigadier General Konstantinos Barlas, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Police, Hellenic Coast Guard Rear Admiral Aggelos Katerelos, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Fire Service Brigadier General Panagiotis Baltas, as representative of the Chief of the Fire Service, the members of the Supreme Naval Council, as well as military and civilian personnel of the Hellenic Navy.

After the Great Vespers, the Deputy Minister of National Defence stated:

It was a great pleasure for me to be here at the South Evoikos Gulf Naval Base, where we honoured the memory of the Great Martyr Saint Marina.

Saint Marina has been a timeless symbol of protection, a spiritual refuge, and a source of strength for the women and men serving in and visiting the Navy Officers Resort.

On the occasion of this glorious celebration, I would like to wish for Saint Marina to protect the Commander, the personnel, and officers visiting the Naval Base with their families, and bestow them good health and strength while fulfilling their duties”.
