Today, Saturday 20 June 2026, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis attended the Commemoration and Honour Day for Fallen Officers, NCOs, and Soldiers of the Engineer Corps at the Engineer School in Loutraki.
Mr. Davakis, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis, attended the memorial service officiated by His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Corinth, Sikyon, Zemeno, Tarsos, and Polyfeghi Mr. Pavlos, delivered an address, and laid a wreath at the Fallen Memorial.
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Loutraki, Perahora, and Aghii Theodori Georgios Gionis, the Deputy Head of Region for Corinthia Athanasios Giolis, the Director of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff F Branch, Major General Georgios Panousis, the Commanding General of the Construction and Natural Disaster Relief Command, Major General Nikolaos Gretsas, the Director of the
Hellenic Army General Staff C Branch, Major General Dimitrios Kourkoulakos, the Director of the Engineer Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Brigadier General Panaghiotis Kafetzellis, the Commandant of the Engineer School, Colonel (Eng) Nikolaos Koritsis, as well as representatives of the local government, Armed and Security Forces officers and NCOs, and representatives of Retired Officer and
Reserve Officer Associations, bodies, and associations.
In his address, Mr. Davakis stated the following:
We are here today in Loutraki to pay our respects to the heroes of the Engineer Corps, the Officers, NCOs, and Soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, at the forefront of the Nation;s struggles, paving the way for freedom and protecting the country with self-sacrifice.
The sacrifice of the Engineer Corps’s fallen is an eternal beacon of values and a reminder of our duty. The Engineer Corps has always been the backbone of the Hellenic Army's operations, as well as a steadfast protector of society in crisis and in peacetime.
We respectfully bow to their memory. Their example leads everyone serving today in the Engineer Corps, keeping the flag of duty and contribution high. May their memory be immortal!”
