On Monday 18 August 2025, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis attended the inauguration ceremony of the Clinic of the 3rd Special National Guard Battalion, at “LIEUTENANT GENERAL NIKOLAOS KATOUNTAS” camp, in Lagada, Chios.
The new Clinic is a donation of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) and the Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Oinouses Markos, who donated its equipment. The Chiots in America and Canada supplemented the required amount.
The ceremony was also attended by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidoforos of America, the MPs of Chios Notis Mitarakis and Stavros G. Mihailidis, Chief/HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis, the Supreme President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association and donator of the work Savas Tsivikos, the representative of the Chief/HAGS and Commanding General of 96 Higher National Guard Battalions Command Brigadier General Charalambos Psaropoulos, the Commanding General of the Special Warfare Command Lieutenant General Georgios Manouras, the Deputy Regional Governor of North Aegean Pantelis Bournias, the Commanding General of the Special Operations Joint Command “SACRED COMPANY” Major General Georgios Kapralos, the Commander of the 3rd Special National Guard Battalion Lieutenant Colonel (INF) Petros Sassaris, representatives of the Security Forces, and donators of the project.
During his address, Mr. Davakis stated, among other things:
“I feel a great obligation to warmly thank, through the President of the AHEPA, our compatriots from Chios for their contribution, and the Metropolitan of Chios for his important contribution as well. I believe that the inauguration of this Clinic will be the start for further optimising more structures of the HQ of the 3rd Special National Guard Battalion. The modernisation of our Armed Forces through Agenda 2030 mainly concerns the essential multiplier of their power, which is their personnel. The personnel who, especially in this area, defend Thermopylae and they deserve a qualitative and secure execution of their duty”.
