Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis Meets Germany’s Deputy Minister of Defence Jens Plötner

October 29, 2026

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis met today, Thursday 29 October 2026, with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Jens Plötner, at the Ministry of National Defence.

During the meeting, the Greek Deputy Minister discussed matters of mutual interest with his German counterpart, focusing on the prospects of further deepening the bilateral cooperation between Greece and Germany in the areas of defence, security, and technology.

After the meeting, Mr. Davakis made the following statement:

“Germany has significantly increased its defence budget, something that confirms its pivotal role in European and international security. At the same time, it is always an important partner regarding the enhancement our Armed Forces.

Our countries are linked by allied ties, a common course in the European security architecture, as well as a likeminded perception of technological developments in the area of defence.

This common value-based background acquires major significance within a changing international environment of increasing challenges and complex security requirements in our continent.

Defence diplomacy is a basic pillar for the enhancement of the operational capabilities of our Armed Forces and the further connection of our national defence industry ecosystem with international military materiel production chains.

Within this framework, we view our cooperation with Germany as a relationship of strategic importance.

I would like to thank the Deputy Minister deeply for his constructive visit and I am looking forward to a partnership with promising prospects”.
