The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Thanasis Davakis, had a meeting on Monday 25 August 2025 with representatives of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Macedonia and the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia Georgios Amanatidis. The meeting was also attended by the MP from Kozani Efstathios Konstantinidis and the MP from Florina Stavros Papasotiriou.
On the part of the Regional Unit of Municipalities, the meeting was attended by the Mayor of Argos Orestiko Panagiotis Kepaptsoglou (Chairman of the BoD), the Mayor of Amyntaio Ioannis Liasis (Vice-Chairman), the Mayor of Grevena Kyriakos Tataridis, the Mayor of Nestorio Christos Gkosliopoulos, the Mayor of Velvento Emmanouil Stergiou, the Mayor of Voio Christos Zefklis, the Mayor of Eordaia Panagiotis Plakentas, the Mayor of Kozani Ioannis Kokkaliaris, and the Mayor of Prespa Georgios Stergiou.
The meeting was held following contacts with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with members of the Government, within the framework of the plan for Western Macedonia’s development transition and the region’s prospects for sustainable development.
The representatives discussed in detail with the Deputy Minister matters falling within the scope of the Ministry of National Defence, related to the economic diversification, the support of employees and local residents, and the development of new areas following the region’s decarbonisation.
