Today, Thursday 16 April 2026, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis met with the Deputy Minister of Defence Pawel Zalewski, at the Hellenic Armed Forces Officers Club in Athens.
During the meeting, the two Deputy Ministers focused on the current bilateral defence cooperation between Greece and Poland, the current security challenges at the Eastern and Southeastern Flank of NATO, as well as on the common priorities of the two countries in the context of the Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.
Simultaneously, they highlighted the significance of the utilization of the available European funding tools, including the “SAFE” Regulation, as well as the current cooperative formations, aiming to assume new initiatives in the field of the defence industry.
Following, in the presence of the two Deputy Ministers, the 2026 Military Cooperation Program was signed and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Athens War museum and the Polish Army Museum.
In his address, after the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Davakis highlighted the following:
“Today I received in Athens my counterpart, Deputy Minister of Defence of Poland Pawel Zalewski.
We discussed the further deepening of the defence cooperation of the two countries, specifically in the field of innovation and new technologies, as well as the possibility to bring even closer the two ecosystems, the Greek and the Polish. We agreed that there is significance room for cooperation, especially in the context of the SAFE Regulation.
We exchanged views on the potential cooperation on armament programs of joint interest, aiming to meet joint requirements in the context of the European tools for capabilities development.
Simultaneously, we highlighted the importance of staying alert, applying international law and enhancing reliable deterrence mechanisms, supporting a 360̊ holistic security approach within NATO and the EU.
We both expressed our will to continue this constructive dialogue”.
