On Tuesday 21 October 2025, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis met with the Secretary General of the Parliament and Defence Deputy Minister of Hungary Tamas Vargha.
In the context of their meeting, the friendly relations between the two countries, the prospect of reinforcing bilateral cooperation in the field of Defence, as well as the modernisation of the Hellenic Armed Forces, were discussed. Views were also exchanged on international and regional Defence and Security issues, like the security situation in the Western Balkans, the developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the ceasefire in the Middle East, as well as issues of illegal immigration.
Mr. Davakis, after welcoming his counterpart in our country, stated that Greece and Hungary share common values, like democracy, the rule of law, common devotion to peace, security, stability and the principles of NATO, while expressing his satisfaction for the constructive cooperation between the two countries in the field of Defence.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Davakis stated:
“I welcomed today my counterpart, Defence Deputy Minister of Hungary Tamas Vargha; with whom I had an essential and constructive working meeting. Greece and Hungary, as member-states of the European Union and NATO, face common challenges in a complex international environment. We discussed issues concerning security and stability in the wider region, as well as the prospects for additional common initiatives in the field of defence.
Greece remains firmly devoted το the reinforcement of the cooperation ties with its allies and partners. I am certain that today’s meeting will substantially contribute to the further deepening of the two countries’ relations”.
