Donations of 117 mil. Euro have been made for the benefit of the Ministry of National Defence from July 2023 to August 2026. The Ministry of National Defence feels the need to thank its donors for their great contribution in the effort to reform the Armed Forces and improve their infrastructure. Indicatively, the number of donors within the present year is 138.
Regarding the donation sums per year, those are:
2023 (from July onwards): 298,075 Euro
2024: 23,191,177 Euro
2025: 38,048,235 Euro
2026 (until 21 August): 55,283,744 Euro
Total: 116,821,231 Euro.
The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, has pointed out the significance of donations towards the Armed Forces:
“The Greek national narrative has always relied on the concept of donation.
The Republic of Athens would not have come to existence without the choregia and the trierarchy. And that continues through the centuries in the form of national benefaction. Namely, as a contribution of the people who succeeded in their lives and chose to support the Country in its times of need. The donations are an active statement of contribution to the vision of a strong Country”.
Mr. Dendias has also pointed out regarding donations that “it is extremely important; not just the fact of the donation itself, but also the example that it sets”.
It is pointed out that the Donation Acceptance Department of the Ministry of National Defence (dorees@mod.mil.gr, tel. 210-6598163) is the gateway for donation requests for the benefit of the Armed Forces.
The purpose of this Department is to fulfil the wishes of the donors through the coordination of all parties involved and the provision of guidelines for the best use of the donations to the Armed Forces.
