The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias visited Evros yesterday, Holy Saturday 11 April, and today, Easter Sunday, 12 April 2026, accompanied by the Chief HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis.
Today, Easter Sunday, Mr. Dendias traveled to the “126” Surveillance Outpost of the 50 Mechanised Brigade “APSOS” in Soufli, the Area of Responsibility of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”, where he exchanged wishes with the personnel and the conscripts.
The visit at the “126” Surveillance Outpost was also attended by the Deputy Governor of Evros for the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Evangelos Poulilios, and the Mayor of Soufli Panagiotis Kalakikos.
It was also attended by the Commanding General of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, the Commanding General of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division “EVROS”, Major General Pavlos Andrikopoulos, and the Commanding General of the 50 Mechanised Brigade “APSOS” Brigadier General Konstantinos Evangelidis.
Upon completion of his visit, Mr. Dendias stated the following:
“Today is Easter. It is a great joy and honour for me to be here, at the “126” Surveillance Outpost in Soufli-Evros, literally a few metres from our country’s borders, in order to wish “Christ is Risen” to the Akrites, our frontiersmen, the personnel at our Surveillance Outpost.
I believe that on such an important day for Christianity, on this moment of joy, the Greek society should set gaze towards the women and men who, on this holy day, guard the borders of our country.
I will repeat this once more; it is a great joy and a great honour for me, along with the Chief HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis, to have the opportunity to exchange wishes with our frontiersmen.

Afterwards, the Minister of National Defence attended the Easter Sunday Agape Vespers at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Portaitissa at the village of Kornofolia. The Deputy Minister of Digital Governance Christos Dermentzopoulos, the MP Anastasios Dimoschakis, and the Mayor of Soufli Panagiotis Kalakikos also attended the Vespers.
Subsequently, the Minister of National Defence visited the “MAJ GEN NIKOLAOS DELAGRAMMATIKAS” Military Camp in Provatonas, where he attended the Easter lunch and exchanged Easter wishes with the personnel and the conscripts.
On Holy Saturday, the Minister of National Defence attended the Holy Pascha Resurrection Service at the Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas in Alexandroupolis, officiated by His Eminence Anthimos, Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis. The Service was also attended by the MP Stavros Keletsis, the Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Christodoulos Topsidis, the Mayor of Alexandroupolis Ioannis Zamboukis, representatives of local authorities and many Christians.
