The Ministry of Defence within the framework of the commemoration of the anniversary of October 28th 1940 organizes an event entitled: “Greece World War II: Narratives and Testimonies”, to be held on Monday, October 23rd 2017 and at 18.30 hours at the Hellenic Armed Forces Officers’ Club (LAED), “TERPSIHORI” Hall (1 Rigillis Street, Athens). The event forms part of the series of events under the general heading” “FREE ATHENS” on the occasion of October 12th 1944, anniversary of Athens liberation from the Nazi occupation.
The programme of the event includes:
Address of the Alternate Minister of Defence, Dimitris Vitsas;
Video projection on the liberation of Athens;
Awards: to the retired Lieutenant General, Georgios Pleionis, a Greek pilot who participated in the allied operations during WW II; to Georgios Tassas, member of the heroic crew of the Greek destroyer ADRIAS and to the retired Rear Admiral, Theodoros Lymperakis (Navy), member of the crew of TOMPAZIS corvette, which participated in the allied landing in Normandy;
Reading letters from the front from the book of the Military History Directorate entitled “War Memoirs”.
The event will be accompanied by the Army Band (Higher Military Command of Army Support Military Music) with a music programme.
