The Ministry of National Defence and the HNDGS, in cooperation with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Macedonia, considers the possibility for the establishment of Chairs in Higher Educational Institutes and their connection with the Hellenic National Defence College and the Supreme Joint War College, aiming at evolving research, promoting and projecting their field of study.
The proposals made by the Ministry of National Defence are the following:
1. The establishment of the “Military History and Geopolitical Analysis of Hellenism in SE Europe and the East Mediterranean, Herodotus” Chair at the Faculty of Turkish and Modern Asian Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in cooperation with the Hellenic National Defence College.
2. The establishment of the “HNDGS Strategic Studies, Thucydides” Chair at the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia, in cooperation with the Supreme Joint War College.
3. The Chairs should function for 4 years and, as long as it is decided that it is successful, the HNDGS will have a renewal possibility.
4. A demand to include courses respective to those of the Chairs to the corresponding department of the two Universities.
The Minister of National Defence Dimitris Avramopoulos in collaboration with the Chief of the HNDGS General Michail Kostarakos approved the aforementioned proposals, also giving an order for the accomplishment of the apposite actions so that the establishment and function of these Chairs will be possible for the academic year 2014-2015.
The initiative for the establishment of Named Chairs of Strategic Studies and Military History contributes to the evolvement of Greek science and the common benefit for both the Armed Forces and the Universities, thus actively proving that the Officers’ academic education is very significant since, combined with their high professional proficiency, it is expected to have fruitful results for the Armed Forces and for society as well.
