The Mayor of Tinos island Simos Orphanos and the members of the municipal council addressed a gratitude letter to the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis for their immediate response to the request for help which the mayor and the council submitted on January 8 due to the adverse weather conditions.

The letter which was sent by the Mayor of Tinos’ Office mentions the following:

“The Mayor of Tinos island Simos Orphanos and the Municipal Council of the Tinos Municipality feel the need to thank the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Dendias for fulfilling the mayor’s request immediately. Thus, the HS “SAMOS” sailed to the port of Tinos to provide us with help for the difficult situation which our island had to face during the recent adverse weather conditions.

We also thank the Chief of Hellenic Navy Admiral Apostolakis for his immediate response to fulfilling our request.

While the vessel was at the island it provided accommodation to people who were in dire need of it, and we had the opportunity to accommodate also aged people on the vessel in case the power outage persisted.

Furthermore, the security alone which the presence of the vessel gave us during these hours when we didn’t know what would happen later, was the best thing that could happen.”
