Greece represented by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. K. Spiliopoulos at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Konstantinos Spiliopoulos represented Greece at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, comprised of Ministers of Defence, which took place yesterday in Brussels.

The agenda on CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy) comprehended the developments concerning current EU affairs and the relations with NATO and other International Organisations.

Mr. Deputy Minister also took part in the formation of the Steering Board of the EDA (European Defence Agency). In the framework of the relevant discussion, which focused on the development of cooperative outlines, as far as armaments are concerned, as well as the pooling and sharing in operations, Mr. Spiliopoulos presented an elaborated Hellenic proposal for the development of a pool of frigates in order to achieve a more effective confrontation of piracy, at a lower cost.

The Deputy Minister Mr. Konstantinos Spiliopoulos invited for the contribution of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine Margaret Ashton, and of its members, so as for the formation of the final proposal and its acceptance by all member-states.
