The Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited, on Wednesday 14 August 2019, the island of Lesbos. He was initially received at the HQ of the 98th Higher National Guard Battalions Command in Mytilene. Later on, he visited the HQ of the 265th Mechanised National Guard Battalion in the Mantamados village, as well as the echelon of the Lesbos Naval Station of the Hellenic Navy in Mytilene.
After being briefed by the Formation’s visited Commands and Units, the Deputy Minister addressed their personnel. He stressed that, the political leadership of the Ministry of National Defence is extremely proud of the Armed Forces personnel, absolutely satisfied with the devotion to its mission’s fulfillment and the produced result, despite the existing difficulties and shortages. Furthermore, he stressed the multi-level contribution of the Armed Forces to society, as well as the essential role of the members of the National Guard to the defence of the territorial integrity and national independence of our homeland.
The Deputy Minister, apart from his visits at a service level, met also with the General Secretary for Aegean and Island Policy Christiana Kalogirou and the Mayor of Lesbos Spyros Galinos, in the context of official visits.
He also visited the Holy Monastery of Pammegistoi Taxiarches in Mantamados village, while in the context of religious festivities for the celebration of the Assumption of Mary, he will attend the Hierarchical and Panegyric Great Feast Day Vespers which will be conducted today at the Holy Church of Panagia Glykofilousa in Petra village.
